Ah, ok. That makes sense.

When I flashed the 20170828 ROM that I mentioned in your thread, it had all of the APN settings for it to work, whereas when I flashed any subsequent builds, they were not there. Maybe taking the ones from that build and using them on the newer ones would work? I dunno, but the phone isn't mine, so I can't test that.

Thanks.

As stated before, KingRoot doesn't work, it says it is not yet available for this device. I will try KingoRoot however and report back.

What version of Android did you start with? I rooted mine in a jiffy.

Yeah, same here. I've never done it before, but I thought about forking the creator's tree from the commit before his radio changes and then incorporating any future updates (security patches, etc.) I'm making the assumption that we are both using the same ROM (by kentone and vince2678), of course.

The build I'm using right now is 20170828, right before Vince removed the prebuilt RIL (https://github.com/Galaxy-MSM8916/android_device_samsung_gprimeltetfnvzw/commits/lineage-15.0?before=dfd3be39f5ff063456495fe207050dc4e385bc1a+35). Everything works, but on the subsequent builds, I couldn't get it to work. The only thing is that my carrier is reported as Verizon Wireless. Doesn't bother me, though.

Seeing that you confirmed working modem/radio, I assume you got root?

EDIT:  I thought something seemed different... I read that you have the Straight Talk edition. I have the TracFone edition.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime / APN Settings for Custom ROMs?
« on: December 29, 2017, 01:47:59 am »
Hey again guys and @rcunningham,

I've been on and off with tinkering in general due to busyness, but when I'm asked for help, I jump on the case...

Does anyone have a compilation of working APN settings that we can use for TracFone devices? When I flash some ROMs on XDA for this device (gprimeltetfnvzw), my SIM card isn't detected and data isn't working.

Alternatively, if anyone uses those unofficial LineageOS ROMs over on XDA, if you got it all to work, how did you do it?

Recovery Building / Re: Flashing Recovery - ZTE Cymbal T
« on: September 10, 2017, 12:28:58 pm »
hmm... I guess I'll have to look beyond form factor then xD. I don't know whether ZTE makes any other Android flip phones, or any other manufacturer, really (except Samsung, I guess).

Lollipop doesn't look too promising for perm root... Anything for kernel version 3.10.49 (November 2016)?

Man, ZTE did well on their part... I've read about people somehow being able to flash TWRP + CM11 on their ZTE phones and then disable write protection, and others who did it the other way around. I just got an unlucky combination, ehh? Lollipop and write protection.

I have the kernel source, but I'm not quite sure what to do with it... If I were to mod the kernel, wouldn't I need a special key to sign its .zip in order to flash, given that the stock recovery actually works?

Recovery Building / Flashing Recovery - ZTE Cymbal T
« on: September 10, 2017, 02:19:46 am »
Hello guys,

I decided to splurge and stay up all night to compile TWRP for the ZTE Cymbal T. I have no idea whether it will actually work or not, but here (GitHub) is my device tree so far.

I was able to make a recovery image, but now I'm kinda stuck. eMMC write protection (includes /system partition, /recovery, etc.) is enabled by default on the Cymbal T, and (thus, I presume) I have only been able to get temporary root with Kingo. I read somewhere about it being a "cache" root, which makes a bit of sense, but I still don't quite understand...

Anyway, I need to find a way to get this flashed... I've tried a Play Store app to flash the image, but it fails, and it seems to use DD. When I disable write protection by using this command in a Terminal emulator (with temp root):
Code: [Select]
reboot disemmcwp, it seems that Kingo cannot root the device, as opposed to when WP is enabled... Then again, Kingo tends to fail sometimes with WP enabled anyway (finicky, I guess?), so I'll test it with WP disabled again, and report back...

Has anybody had to work around this with LG devices, or anything? I've only heard of this being a ZTE thing.

Bricked Phone Support / Re: Bricked L39C - Any stock .img available?

Sadly I cant find any stock files for this device, I sold mine a long time ago and all I remember is that the bootloader was literally stuck.
Stuck... speaking of that, how do the bootloaders work on these phones? I try to boot into it, but it takes me to the OS instead (on another TracFone).

I was just reading a post where someone wrote that, if you call TracFone, they will carrier-unlock the phone for you. I have not tried this myself, though. For root, try KingRoot, KingoRoot (note the "o" in this one), etc. Be careful, though, as I have heard of some (stock) phones not booting after being rooted. Better safe than sorry.

Bricked Phone Support / Bricked L39C - Any stock .img available?
« on: August 16, 2017, 11:18:47 am »
Hello again everyone,

I have been on and off for a few years, and I happened to revive my interest in my Optimus Dynamic II. I noticed that in the few seconds when the stock recovery resets this device, it is visible in ADB, so I figured that I could try and flash something in that small time window.

I may get a .zip of all the stock apps and try to flash it, since that's why I am having problems (missing stock apps).

I'm tempted to go and ask LG for a stock image to flash, but I wasn't sure whether that was the best idea or not.

**EDIT: Never mind, I get
Code: [Select]
error:closed from ADB when I try to sideload...

ROM Support / Re: [LG G3 ROM (L41C)] Automatic Brightness?

I remember that the stock ROM didn't have that function either...

EDIT: n000.... I checked my sensors app again... The L41C doesn't have a lux sensor...

ROM Support / [LG G3 ROM (L41C)] Automatic Brightness?
« on: November 21, 2016, 11:51:12 am »
Hello everyone,

I have been looking for the auto brightness feature that I normally see on Android, but I can't find thr function on this ROM. I know that this device has a functioning lux sensor, so the function would work if it were to be implemented into the ROM, right? I honestly don't know

Thanks!

LG Ultimate 2 / Re: [ROM] [4.4.2] LG G3 ROM for the LG Ultimate 2

I just came from the stock deodexed 4.4.2 ROM on the androidforums website, and I must say, this G3 UI is a breath of fresh air! Thanks!

**copied from androidforums.com**

Hello everyone, I finally got my hands on another LG Ultimate, so I'll probably be around this section a bit more.

After installing SuperR's stock deodexed KitKat ROM, I noticed that Japanese Kanji were displayed in their Chinese variants. I attempted editing the fallback_fonts.xml to raise the Japanese font above the DroidSansFallback.ttf font containing the Chinese, but I found that the font I was trying to raise did not exist in the system.

Thus, I found files for the three Japanese fonts usually included in stock Android (MTLmr3m.ttf, MTLc3m.ttf, and DroidSansJapanese.ttf) and made a flashable .zip out of them. I edited the fallback_fonts.xml so that the MTLmr3m.ttf font would be first in priority, but you can change it to whichever of the fonts I included.

I enabled Japanese language by using an app called MoreLangs https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sightidea.com.setlocale to force the language change, since it isn't available in the language menu. Most apps translate, except for the Settings app, which I assume is LG custom-made or something like that(?)

I kept on coming here and going to the androidforums website, and I didn't know that @rcunningham created this! I am Haruo from the androidforums website, where @rcunningham used to post for the LG Ultimate 2.

I finally got my hands on another LG Ultimate 2, and I am gonna see what I can do to participate here...
