TracFone BYOP Program / VZW phones for Straight Talk BYOP
« on: December 04, 2017, 03:36:50 pm »
I want to upgrade from my LG Ultimate 2, and I have my heart set on an LG G3.  Should I get a G3 branded for Verizon, or can I get an unlocked G3?

Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide.

LG Ultimate 2 / Re: Runtime in developer options

i believe you need the deodexed stock rom for the switch to work
Makes sense, since ODEX files are optimized for Dalvik run-time.  Why didn't I think of that?!

So CWM or TWRP backup and deodex (or vice versa), then switch to ART VM, then wipe Dalvik cache.  I think I'll pass until more is uncovered about running ART on KitKat ROMs.

I tried switching to ART when I first got this phone in early 2015, but it wouldn't stick after rebooting.  I see relevant lib and binary files in '/system' but never investigated to figure out how to get it working.  Now I'm curious again.

I'm quite happy with my LG Ultimate 2, only thing I want is a better CPU, more RAM, and LTE.  But I can't get a 2GHz quad-core CPU with 2GB of RAM in an L70; I don't need a camera with more than 5MP, I hate Material UI, and I prefer hardware action/home/back buttons...no navbar for me.  Now I can't get a phone I like, cuz nobody makes one.

Yea, I kinda knew this was gonna happen. I will try to remove the updater app and see if that fixes any of the issues, I just don't know why LG would find the need to update these 2 apks on an over 3 year old phone.

Good luck with that, it might break the keyguard if you do.

I trashed my Galaxy Core Prime a few weeks ago (1st & last Samsung I'll ever own), now I'm back on my Ultimate 2.  I wiped the data, restarted, and no sooner than I finish the initial setup process, 2 LG updates immediately start downloading, so I didn't have choice.  After the updates finished, I rebooted, and the lockscreen had a button at the bottom for "emergency call", and a message under the clock widget that read "No sim card".  Furthermore, the lockscreen shortcuts were gone, so I uninstalled the keyguard update.

After another reboot, the lockscreen was completely gone!  I had issues in the past like this, if I disabled the LG Home launcher, or removed the ChromeWithBrowser.apk, and a few other ROM changes.  And once the lockscreen was gone, I couldn't figure out how to get it back, short of restoring a backup image, or worst case, resetting the phone again.

So when the LG updates started downloading after another reset, I cancelled the keyguard update, but I couldn't stop the SystemUI Update Helper in time.  Anyway, I started Titanium Backup, froze the LG update apps, opened root explorer, deleted the SystemUI update .apk in '/data/app-system' (couldn't be uninstalled from App Manager), and rebooted.

Guess what?  Problem solved.  Now if only I could fix the disappearing lockscreen without resetting the phone.

I'm still running the factory ROM, with a few minor mods, in case you're wondering.

Any chance we'll get TWRP for this phone? I found 1 at AndroidArea51 but it's a bit shabby and nobody's responded to my post since I put it up over a week ago.

I really like how quickly everyone came together here for the [LG-L41C] Ultimate 2, and I'd prefer to keep coming here for TracFone branded phones if I have a choice.

LG Ultimate 2 / [MOD] Alternative INIT.D support
« on: September 02, 2016, 08:43:10 pm »
I never did make a working ramdisk with native init.d support, but I DID find a better solution than the install-recovery.sh method.

I added a few lines to the end of /system/etc/init.gammaw.post_boot.sh, here's how it looks:
Code: [Select]

if [ -d ${INIT_DIR:=$ANDROID_ROOT/etc/init.d} ]; then
logwrapper busybox run-parts $INIT_DIR
elif mount -o remount,rw $ANDROID_ROOT; then
mkdir -p $INIT_DIR
chown 0.0 $INIT_DIR
chmod 0755 $INIT_DIR
mount -o remount,ro $ANDROID_ROOT
(NOTE: the elif condition, and lines before the fi keyword, aren't necessary.)

This script is executed during the last boot phase, when the boot animation stops, and is responsible for applying hardware-specific settings. Therefore, if any governor, scheduler, or virtual memory parameters are modified via init.d script, they must be done here. Remember to set your init.d scripts' permissions:
Code: [Select]
chown 0.0 /etc/init.d/script
chmod 0750 /etc/init.d/script

(NOTE: if your init.d scripts are not working, make sure busybox is installed, script names do not include an extension (script, not script.sh), and /etc/init.gammaw.post_boot.sh has root permissions set to 0750.)

LG Ultimate 2 / Re: [Recovery] Philz's Touch 6.59.0
« on: July 25, 2015, 11:32:51 am »
Excellent work, flashed, booted, and backed up like a charm. Thx.

1st time I've seen CWM Touch, not quite what I expected. My L38C has CWM 5, scrolling with volume buttons can be very touchy but it's a rock-solid recovery.
I'm gonna stick with TWRP for now, the backup size is smaller and having a CLI in recovery is a major benefit. Nonetheless, it's really exciting to see so much progress & so many options for this phone in just 6 months.

@rcunningham, @SuperR, @edodson84...thank you, thank you, thank you.

LG Optimus Dynamic / Re: LG Optimus Dynamic stock ROM

I like the l38c. It's a great little Gingerbread phone. I set up a 2nd partition on mine and have plenty of room for apps. With a performance mod added to this phone it will be just as fast as any other more expensive phone.

What's the factory size of the data partition on yours? Mine was 150MiB, ~60MiB usable out of the box, then I repartitioned so the internal SD is 512MiB and data is over 650MiB. The folks @ AA51 have been very helpful.

I used to have this phone, got a sweet ROM and tons of tips, tricks, and mods @ Android Area51. Good entry-level phone and very customizable, albeit a bit underpowered. At the time of this post, I believe it's the most active forum for the L38C.
