General Device Support / Re: LG Ultimate 2 bricked part 2
« on: April 08, 2016, 11:28:38 pm »
I haven't been on here or using Android as a daily driver for quite a bit, so here is a short story:
I was bored and accidentally deleted lgsystemui.apk one day back in October 2015 (I think)
Then I bought a LG Optimus Fuel with an iPod Touch and in February 2016 I bought an iPhone 5S and put it on TracFone's BYOP program.
Today, I was riding my bike and I checked my phone and dropped it face down. The screen is ok (except it popped out but I put it back) and a few dents. This experience made me realize why I should have a backup phone (one usable since the LG Optimus Fuel doesn't suit my needs). I pulled out my bricked Ultimate 2 and am now exploring new ways to fix it. I asked a similar question awhile ago but now I have learned the basics of ADB (I bought a Fire 2015 that I soft bricked once or twice but fixed it) and I'm also not stupid enough to delete important system files. Of course with my luck, my Ultimate 2 does not show up in ADB. Does anybody have a stock ROM (or at this point I don't care and any rom is fine as long as it is for the phone) and know how I can install it (or to just get the stupid APK on there I was using the LG G3 ROM with TWRP last time I checked). Last time we came to the conclusion to get a replacement or an upgrade, and I just bought a new phone, and it isn't worth it to replace since I have my iPhone, I'd just like to fix it as a backup.

EDIT: I know how to fix this phone if it is possible to enable ADB without the phone fully booting. Which it probably isn't. Don't make this high priority, since this phone isn't my daily driver.

TLDR: I deleted LGSystemUI.apk on a phone, asked about it before, got a new phone, almost broke it, and want to fix it as a backup. What annoys me is that I had a recovery but now I don't (unless I need the SD card for it to work). Or, could I make a bootable TWRP or CWM recovery SD card and then boot from that to fix the phone (or at least enable ADB)?
Your story had good descriptive details, organized paragraphs, and a interesting plot line. All joking aside, how did the recovery disappear? Was it installed on the same phone before? Does the factory reset recovery launch work?

First of all, Awesome ROM! I've noticed a couple issues however, in the Display Tab in Settings, the Screen settings option gives me the "Unfortunately Settings have Stopped" error. Also, when I reboot, the screen is set to %100 Brightness. Other than those issues, it is a fantastic ROM, it kind of reminds me of the LG Lucky/Sunrise in a way. Great work!
Glad you like it! Did you read the entire post before using the settings?

hello all i was restoring a backup and now i am stuck on an lg security error screen and i would appreciate it if somebody can help me enter recovery or give me some tips on how to fix it. i dont think its bricked though.
Start by turning off the phone by pressing the Power button. Then hold down together two buttons Volume Down and Power button for a couple of seconds.. Release for a moment Power key when the LG logo appears on the screen and press it again. Now, you should see factory reset menu. Then select the "Yes" option twice. Your phone will now boot into recovery.

No. I have tried and tried to boot into recovery. The LG logo screen is all I can ever get
So your bricked the super hard way, I have been in this situation so many times and it takes about 400 tries to get it to work ;D

So what you will need to do is do it REALLY fast when the phone turns on. Use this as a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGJEHEErUPQ, but speed it up 2x.

Having no luck getting into recovery that way.... Any other suggestions?
It's the only way we know so far. Is it erasing your phone or are you just not able to get to the factory reset screen?

is there a "kdz" way to do it or send the adb reboot recovery command?
L41C doesn't have download mode so we can't flash a KDZ, TracFone is the type of company to make it hard to fix your own phone.

I need HELP! Or there may be none. not sure. First want to say you guys are doing awesome work here. I have been using the UltiLolli ROM. Have loved it. Ended up having some problems. So I booted into TWRP and began to flash a backup I had. TWRP hung during this process. Now my phone only turns on to the LG screen. If I connect it to my computer, it will show up in the device manager. ADB says no devices found. So do I now have a brick? Any info is appreciated.
You should be OK since you had a recovery installed.

  • Start by turning off the phone by removing the battery.
  • Then hold down together two buttons Volume Down and Power button for a couple of seconds.
  • Release for a moment Power key when the LG logo appears on the screen and press it again.
  • Now, you should see factory reset menu.
  • Use the volume buttons to select Yes.
  • Insted of factory resetting you will be directed to TWRP.

Then you can restore your backup. It usally takes around 10 minutes to restore or so. If the backup continues to fail you can wipe and reinstall one of the ROMs.

WOW!  This ROM is truly impressive.

I really hated the stock ROM that came with the Ultimate 2 ... I tried using Xposed and alternative Launchers to try to make it prettier, which significantly affected battery life and some stability.

I am pleased to say that this ROM really turned my opinion of this phone around, even if most of it was just that it was ugly and customization limited.

Installation went seamlessly, with special thanks to Flashify and Towelroot, even for a semi dirty flash (the only wipe I did was davlik and cache, not a complete wipe and reinstall).  All my apps, data, account info, etc. remained in tact and minus a couple of Google Play Store and Google Services crashes at the very beginning, VERY stable.

The only issue I have come across is in the display settings when trying to access "Screen Mode' and "Screen-Off Effect" which is FAR from a disability in any way as far as I can tell.

Just wanted to say kudos and note what a fantastic ROM this is for a mid level tracfone.  I'm not even worried about the fact that the Development has halted for this phone because I'm not sure how much this ROM could be improved.

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I am glad you liked it  :) if I ever get the phone again I will try to fix those bugs.

For future reference, use this recovery on the LG Ultimate 2: http://www.mediafire.com/download/qyy6xyrhcwu8gmd/TWRP-L41C-R4.img It will allow you to boot from factory reset.

From the video TWRP didn't come up, and since you can get past the LG screen, your phone is bricked. This is why I hate what TracFone does to there phones. Removes download mode and fastboot mode and stock recovery, this basically means there is no way to fix your phone without a solid recovery. You can always get a free L41C replacement from TracFone by using this guide:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rYx_QUTSlsyn1kCLi5OOLQzP3LykWL6j78uWkvX9bY4/edit?usp=sharing

Keep in mind if you do that you will be committing fraud at your own risk, I have done it like 10 times so I don't think TracFone cares that I cam committing fraud.

Ok, that thread had the beta TWRP versions, you used Beta 3.

OTG isn't supported on the LG Ultimate 2. You can backup to the Micro SD card that came with your phone or you can also make a backup to the internal storage.
