Title: Re: [Root] How to root the LG Sunset with Kingroot
Post by: rcunningham on June 27, 2016, 05:18:18 pm

No for both

The LG Sunset doesn't have a SIM card slot, you can use it on TracFone for one year then you can use it with other GSM service providers. Rooting doesn't wipe the phone, unlocking the bootloader on most phones will. It's not possible to unlock the bootloader on the Sunset as it is a TracFone.

I am lost here. I know this thing has a SIM card slot, I've seen it and swapped them out with other cards and even other TracFone cards.
If it can be un-locked by TracFone after a year - than it CAN be unlocked.
So what's the deal? Is it that this meathod won't do the job? If so, what's the point to risking "bricking" your phone?
You're right, it has a SIM card (http://tracfone.devicebits.com/tracfone/tutorial.seam?tutorialId=1604510&name=Insert+SIM+Card&custId=TFLGL33L&phoneId=23636&locale=en_us&phone_name=LG+L33L&ttype=f (http://tracfone.devicebits.com/tracfone/tutorial.seam?tutorialId=1604510&name=Insert+SIM+Card&custId=TFLGL33L&phoneId=23636&locale=en_us&phone_name=LG+L33L&ttype=f)). I was thinking of the LG L22C.

I was talking about the bootloader being locked, not the service be unlocked. It's very confusing how they both have the same names. Rooting sadly won't allow the phone to be service to be unlocked any sooner. If done incorrectly there is a risk, the point is to allow access to other features of the phone, unleash its full potential.

Hopefully I didn't confuse you even more ;D.

I got the Sunset on a trip back to the states last month. Currently stationed in Germany. I don't know squat about manipulating smart phones. Question is: Will "rooting" this phone unlock the ability to use other SIM cards? And will it wipe my phone with all the photos and apps?

Thank You , i did not use the most recent version.

I have now downloaded version 4.6 and it worked !!

do you know if there are free unlock codes available for this phone somewhere ?

Mine is a straighttalk phone and they will not provide unlock code because i have not had 12 months phone service using this phone on straighttalk.

I have also checked a couple of the online places for paid unlock codes and they do not have the codes for this phone.
You can't get free unlock codes very easy... None the less finding a ST phone unlock code at all. I can't provide you with any unlock codes and I have looked harder than most for unlock codes for ST and TF phones. If I come across anything I will tell you.

Hi,
Black friday i purchased a Straighttalk  LG sunset L33L.
I have tried rooting it by your procedure above.

I start the app, then it recognizes my phone model and displays in the middle of the screen. In a few seconds the screen displays "Root access is unavailable no strategy now"

Can this phone be rooted ? if not i need to return it by friday 12/11.

Thank You for help.
Did you download the latest version? Is there any other buttons you can press?

Thank you for your post on rooting the LG Sunset.  I'm kinda a nooby when it comes to working with phones, but I have an android tablet, so I'm familiar with the OS.

My question is, How do you install recovery (either TWRP or CWM) and then boot to recovery.

Thanks.
I recently got this device and am currently looking into recovery... We have a locked bootloader so its gonna take time to even c if we can unlock it or modify bump for the new keys

Please Use at your own risk!!!
This may brick your phone if you don't follow the steps correctly!

So you want to root LG Sunset? Well your at the right place. Rooting is the process of getting administrative rights to the phone so one can do customizations that aren't normally allowed. Rooting can make your phone into a beautiful artwork, the basic root user can still use many useful things such as, Custom boot animations (Get rid of that carrier one), uninstall system apps that annoy you, and much more. You can also flash custom ROMs (If they ever come out for one of these phones). You will need recovery to flash a ROM. This worked for my buddy with the Sunset so it will work for you.

1. Go to http://www.kingroot.net and download the latest version of KingRoot for Android.
2. Make sure unknown sources is checked in settings or it wont open.
3. Open the KingRoot apk file
4. Install it! It will tell you its a bad app, don't listen to that and just continue.
5. There will be a thing asking you to root, so press it. It can take around 20-30 seconds, and now you got root!
6. Your done! Enjoy your rooted Sunset!
